The Wayne State University School of Social Work Office of Continuing Education invites you to attend “Human Trafficking: Working Together as Partners of Excellence” presented by Dena Nazer, MD. The prevalence of human trafficking has reached alarming levels in the United States. To address this widespread crisis, individuals licensed or registered by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA); e.g., physicians, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, and professional counselors, all have a new continuing educational requirement that must be met when seeking initial or renewal of an individual’s licensure or registration.

To address this widespread crisis, individuals licensed or registered by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA); e.g., physicians, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, and professional counselors, all have a new continuing educational requirement that must be met when seeking initial or renewal of an individual’s licensure or registration.
Dr. Nazer is a professor of pediatrics at Wayne State University School of Medicine. She is the Medical Director at Kids-TALK Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) in Detroit, where she performs medical evaluations for children suspected of being maltreated and victims of human trafficking. Dr. Nazer is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in General Pediatrics and Child Abuse Pediatrics. Governor Gretchen recently appointed Dr. Nazer as the Chair of the Michigan Human Trafficking Health Advisory Board and is serving her 2nd term on the board. She teaches healthcare professionals nationally and internationally about child maltreatment and human trafficking.
This presentation will help attendees meet the requirement of licensing in the State of Michigan through:
1. Understanding the types and venues of human trafficking in Michigan and the United States.
2. Identifying victims of human trafficking in health care settings.
3. Identifying the warning signs of human trafficking in health care settings for adults and minors.
4. Identifying resources for reporting when suspecting a child is a victim of human trafficking.
5. Dispelling myths, unlearning, and relearning together throughout this talk
CONTINUING EDUCATION: Attendees can obtain 1 social work CECH upon completion of the training, payment receipt and passing of the post-training quiz. A CECH certificate will be emailed within 7 - 10 business days after the event.
COST: Free to attend and $15 for 1 CECH All attendees must RSVP for this training.
