The Wayne State University School of Social Work Office of Continuing Education invites child welfare workers, family preservation workers, foster care workers and adoption services to attend one of our specialized child welfare trainings

Led by Wayne State University Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) Univeristy Counselor Patricia Dixon, LMSW, this training will be a fun and educational opportunity for child welfare workers to learn self-care techniques that will reduce anxiety and stress while improving focus and decision-making skills. Participants will learn how the limbic system plays an important part in stress management and when attended to reduces risk of burnout. Dixon will also demonstrate basic and intermediate ways to utilize mindfulness in day-to-day work and home activities to promote work life balance. Attendees will participate in role playing, exercises, small and large group discussions, and visual displays.

As a result of this training, attendees will:

  • Learn at least three mindfulness skills to use to improve self-care and work performance.
  • Describe how mindfulness helps a person to manage the Fight Flight Freeze reaction.
  • Use at least one mindfulness technique with clients and co-workers.

Attendees can obtain 3 CE's upon completion of the training, payment receipt and passing of the post-training quiz. Seating is limited and preference will be given to child welfare workers.

All attendees must RSVP by October 6, 2022 for this training. Attendees will receive the WSU campus location details closer to the event. This in-person event will comply with all current COVID-19 campus guidelines
