This training aims to increase a culture of wellness amongst in the child and family system. It will examine potential warning signs and risk factors for burnout, compassion fatigue, and secondary trauma and equip practitioners in developing a workable self-care plan. As a result of
this training, participants will be prepared to identify warning signs of secondary trauma, burnout, and compassion fatigue, develop a practical self-care plan, and develop an awareness of how to utilize mental health services.

This training aims to increase a culture of wellness amongst in the child and family system. It
will examine potential warning signs and risk factors for burnout, compassion fatigue, and
secondary trauma and equip practitioners in developing a workable self-care plan. As a result of
this training, participants will be prepared to identify warning signs of secondary trauma,
burnout, and compassion fatigue, develop a practical self-care plan, and develop an awareness of
how to utilize mental health services.

Training Objectives:

  1. Increase awareness of secondary trauma in the workplace.
  2. Understand risk factors for burnout, and compassion fatigue and how to recognize it.
  3. Understand the importance of positive mental health to prevent work related stress & burnout using self-care practices.
  4. Understand how to access mental health services.

As a result of this workshop, participants will be prepared to:

  1. Identify warning signs of secondary trauma, burnout, and compassion fatigue.
  2. Develop a practical self-care plan.
  3. Develop awareness of how to utilize mental health services.

Adijat Ogunyemi, DSW, LMSW, is a licensed clinical social worker, WSU (Wayne State University) alumni board member, and social innovator. With over 13 years of clinical experience, she has worked in the healthcare industry supporting individuals, families, and communities in improving their level of functioning and quality of life through better mental health. In her primary appointment as a therapist in a health center, Ogunyemi provides mental health and substance abuse treatment to individuals in medically underserved communities. She
is a professor of sociology at a public community college in the Detroit area. As a social innovator, Ogunyemi works to close healthcare gaps by advocating for mental health promotion, protection, and treatment.
